BEATNIK'S AUDIO ENGINE REACHES A QUARTER OF A BILLION MOBILE PHONES
One of the fastest adoptions of embedded software technology in the handset industry
3GSM World Congress, Cannes, France Feb 14, 2005 -- Beatnik, Inc., the leading provider of structured audio software solutions for mobile devices, today announced that The Beatnik Audio Engine has shipped in over 250 million handsets. Mobile devices from more than eight of the leading manufacturers, including Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Siemens and Samsung, have Beatnik's Audio Engine (BAE) embedded in them, in what has become one of the fastest adopted third party software components in modern mobile phones.
The BAE provides consumers with the ultimate in mobile phone audio personalisation by supporting the playback of high-fidelity music composed with samples of real instruments, voices and sound effects, all in small file sizes which can be easily downloaded over the air - for polyphonic ringtones, games and multimedia messaging applications. It also offers revenue generation opportunities for service providers and network operators from music clip delivery and multimedia messaging services.
"We are very pleased to announce that in excess of 250 million mobile phones world-wide have shipped including Beatnik's Audio Engine - making it the one of the fastest adoptions of an embedded software technology," said Jeremy Copp, Chief Sales Officer at Beatnik. "Today, handset manufacturers are recognising the importance of the standard audio file formats that have been adopted by the wireless industry, and the BAE offers a flexible, configurable, proven and fully compliant pure software solution that enables them to include such functionality in their mobile phones."
As a complete audio subsystem, the BAE incorporates a synthesiser, mixer, sample rate converter, linear audio player and support for MIDI, SP-MIDI, XMF, RMF, and WAV file formats. This gives users full control over all sounds produced by their mobile phone, allowing full audio personalisation. Beatnik has licensed its BAE technology to industry-leading wireless handset manufacturers and platform providers including Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Siemens, Samsung, Panasonic, Texas Instruments and Sendo.
Beatnik will be demonstrating the Beatnik Audio Engine at the 3GSM World Congress 2005, Cannes, France located at the Palais des Festivals et des Congres, Hall 2, Stand E19 (Texas Instruments' stand) - from February 14 to17, 2005.
