BEATNIK AUDIO SOLUTIONS INTEGRATED WITH TEXAS INSTRUMENTS’ 2.5G CELLULAR CHIPSET PLATFORMS

Beatnik Audio Engine to provide audio playback and musical ringtones in Texas Instruments’ wireless chipsets and mobile phone reference designs

3GSM Congress, Cannes– February 23, 2004 -- Beatnik, Inc., the leading provider of structured audio software solutions for mobile devices, today announced that the Beatnik Audio Engine (BAE) has been licensed for inclusion in the Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) family of TCS Chipsets and mobile phone reference designs. The integration of Beatnik's audio technology into TI's solutions will enable phone manufacturers to rapidly develop mass market handsets able to support rich audio for polyphonic ringtones, games and multimedia messaging applications - all based on open industry standard audio formats, such as SP-MIDI and XMF.

The highly-flexible, pure software BAE brings high-fidelity audio composed from samples of real instruments and voices to the most popular devices on the market. The BAE has been optimized for deployment in TI's Chipsets for mobile phones. Handset manufacturers adopting BAE can enjoy the benefits of reduced time to market and lower bill of materials by producing phones based on validated hardware and software reference designs from TI and Beatnik.

"The Beatnik Audio Engine is a cost-effective solution that enables us to provide our customers with a high-fidelity audio implementation that supports all of the current industry standard formats - all in a reference design that can be rapidly deployed in mobile phones," said Loïc Hamon, Worldwide Marketing Manager for TI's 2.5G Wireless Chipsets.

"TI's decision to use the Beatnik Audio Engine in its wireless chipset solutions means that there is now a low-risk, cost-effective way for all mobile phone manufacturers to deliver cutting-edge audio to the mass market," said Jeremy Copp, Chief Sales Officer at Beatnik. "This collaboration will enable the mobile entertainment industry to deliver first-class audio services and audio-enhanced applications across the full range of mobile phones."

Beatnik's small footprint, scaleable software engine supports the real time synthesis of high quality polyphonic audio. As a complete audio subsystem, the BAE incorporates a synthesiser, mixer, sample rate converter, linear audio player and support for MIDI, SP-MIDI, XMF, RMF, and WAV file formats. This gives users full control over all sounds produced by their mobile phone, allowing full audio personalisation. Beatnik has licensed its BAE technology to industry-leading wireless handset manufacturers including Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Siemens, Samsung and Sendo.
