BEATNIK AND SONY ERICSSON DUET ON THE P800
Beatnik Audio Engine powers high
quality synthesised music and effects in the Sony Ericsson
P800
San Mateo, CA February 12, 2003 -- Beatnik,
Inc., a leading provider of structured audio software solutions
for mobile devices, today announced that Sony Ericsson Mobile
Communications is using the Beatnik Audio Engine (BAE)
in its new Symbian-based P800 mobile phone and in other
future products. Already in use by well over two million
people worldwide, the BAE enables users of the P800 to download
high-fidelity musical ringtones, play games with realistic
sound effects, send audio-enhanced multimedia messages and
to assign custom sounds to common phone tasks.
Beatnik will be demonstrating the audio capabilities of
the P800 at its booth on the Texas Instruments stand, E19
in Hall 2, at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes from 17th-22nd
February 2003. An exclusive ringtone will be available for
download from Beatnik show staff to a wide range of Beatnik-powered
phones being demonstrated at the show.
Consumers are demanding ever higher levels of functionality
in their phones in particular, colour touch screens,
cameras, Java gaming, internet access and personalisation,
said Stefan Streit, Vice President Product Marketing at
Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications. The P800 is the
most advanced mobile phone on the market and the high quality
audio capabilities provided by the Beatnik Audio Engine
further enhances the user experience of the P800.
HighMobile Music, a recent report from Baskerville,
suggested that the right audio solution is absolutely critical
to uptake of revenue generating services such as ringtone
and game downloads, said Jeremy Copp, senior vice
president of sales and marketing at Beatnik, Inc. The
Beatnik Audio Engine, as used by a wide range of mobile
phone manufacturers, is the industry standard solution for
mobile audio. We are pleased to add industry leaders Sony
Ericsson as the latest of our technology licensees.
Beatniks small footprint, scaleable software engine
supports the real time synthesis of high quality polyphonic
audio. As a complete audio subsystem, the BAE incorporates
a synthesiser, mixer, sample rate converter, linear audio
player and support for MIDI, SPMIDI, XMF, RMF, and WAV file
formats. This gives users full control over all sounds produced
by their mobile phone, allowing full audio personalisation.
